Music

Music is an important part of our curriculum because it plays an important part in all our lives. Music can transport us to a time or place, entertain us, calm us, excite us, unite us. Think of any memorable moment in your life and, chances are, there is an associated piece of music.

At Larkfield, we learn music by making music. During their time with us, children will develop their understanding of how music is created, produced and communicated through the interrelated dimensions of: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and notation. In early years and Key Stage 1, they predominantly use their own instrument - the voice - as the medium through which they learn. Children enter KS2 with a solid basis of musical knowledge on which to build, developing instrumental technique on recorder and later on ukulele.

Children have a range of performance opportunities to showcase their musical talents through assemblies, seasonal presentations, productions and community events.
