6FB 2019 - 2020
Welcome to 6FB
This term our topic is
Please ensure your child reads every night and completes their own reading record, we ask this to encourage independence - next year high school homework diaries will need to be completed! The children are all aware that extra reading points are awarded for writing a short synopsis of what they have read - and reading points can add up to extra playtime!
The book your child reads doesn't necessarily have to be their reading book from school, a book from home, a newspaper, even a recipe book is fine ... just as long as they are reading something!
Homework will be set every third Friday and takes the form of our exciting Learning Log. Your child must complete two pages of their Learning Log - but how they present their work is up to them! Written information, drawings, models or a mix of different media on a wide variety of subjects should keep everyone involved and engaged!
Children must ensure their kit is in school at all times for PE - PE kits can be taken home every half term for washing.
This half term one of our PE lessons will be spent swimming and kits including hats should be brought to school each Friday.
Our additional PE lesson will take place on a Thursday.
Spelling tests are given each Tuesday after which a new list will be given out. We are simultaneously practising our spellings and our cursive writing - look out for our new spelling sheets.
Please continue to learn times tables at home. All children have a password for the Times Tables Rockstars website - a great interactive way to practise to your tables.
Spring Term 2019
Welcome back to the penultimate term for the children - we are going to work hard and make sure we have fun on the way!
Out topic this term is Horrid Henry - no not Perfect Peter's brother but Henry VIII! We are reading a historical novel by Berlie Doherty called Treason and will also be studying Shakespeare's Macbeth as well as finding out about life in Tudor times. We will investigate Henry's eight wives and the reason for the creation of The Church of England and the Break with Rome.
In Maths we are continuing to apply our knowledge to reasoning and problem solving activities and will get on with learning the topics of Algebra, Ratio and some Geometry.
We have already enjoyed our Sports Skills day with Mr Beckham and continue to have PE lessons with Mr Sutch on a Thursday afternoon - please ensure all kits are in school each Thursday.
Look out for photos of us completing Tudor timelines this week!
