5/6D 2019 - 2020
Welcome to 5/6D
This term our topic is 'Blitz, Bombs and Little Boys' and we will be finding out why World War 2 began, which countries were involved, how the war finally came to an end and what it would have been like to live through this dramatic period in history. In terms of our novel, we are studying 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' by John Boyne which is a fictional story set during World War 2 and follows the adventures of a nine-year-old called Bruno.
Please ensure your child reads every night and completes their reading record. It doesn't necessarily have to be their reading book from school, a book from home, a newspaper, even a recipe book will do... just as long as they are reading something! Reading each night will help your child achieve more points in the reading competition...and may even earn them a treat at the end of the week!
Children must ensure their kit is in school at all times for PE. PE kits can be taken home every half term for washing. At present our PE slot is on Thursday afternoon.
Homework will be set every other Friday and will take the form of a Learning Log linked to our topic. The children will need to complete two pages of their Learning Log, but can choose how they wish to present their work...written information, drawings, tables collages or models or even a combination of these...the only limit is your child's imagination!
Spellings will be given out on Friday and tested the following Friday. As you will see, we are continuing to encourage all children across school to use cursive writing even when practising their spellings.
