5/6D 2018 - 2019
Welcome to 56D
This term our topic is 'Exceptional Explorers of the Perishing Poles' and we will be finding out what conditions are like at the most extreme points of the planet, as well as discovering more about the people who found them in the first place. In terms of our novel, we are studying 'Sky Song' by Abi Elphinstone which is an adventure story set in the fictional kingdom of Erkenwald.
Please ensure your child reads every night and completes their reading record. It doesn't necessarily have to be their reading book from school, a book from home, a newspaper, even a recipe book will do... just as long as they are reading something! Reading each night will help your child achieve more points in the reading competition...and may even earn them a treat at the end of the week!
Children must ensure their kit is in school at all times for PE. PE kits can be taken home every half term for washing. At present our PE slot is on Thursday afternoon.
Children must ensure their swimming kit is in school EVERY FRIDAY as we currently have a swimming slot on Friday afternoons. Swimming is an important part of the curriculum so please make sure they have their kit!
Homework will be set every other Friday and will take the form of a Learning Log linked to our topic. The children will need to complete two pages of their Learning Log, but can choose how they wish to present their work...written information, drawings, tables collages or models or even a combination of these...the only limit is your child's imagination!
Spellings will be given out on Thursday and tested the following Thursday. As you will see, we are continuing to encourage all children across school to use cursive writing even when practising their spellings.
