Home Learning - Reading, Multiplication Challenges and Spellings
At larkfield, we put a huge emphasis on reading. Children are expected to read every night and record this in their Reading Records. This should be brought in everyday and it allows us to keep track of how the children are progressing with their reading and also can be a communication tool for you at home.
Children are also encouraged to practise their spellings and multiplication tables every day. Spellings will be given out on a Friday and tested on the following Friday.
To best prepare for Year 4, you are expected to practise your multiplication tables as much as you can through Times Table Rockstars. This will be checked weekly.
Children's passwords can be found in the front of their Homework Book. This allows them to access Rock Star X Tables and Purple Mash which is a website that offers a fantstic range of computer based activities the children can access.
Amazing rewards are up for grabs for those that read / learn tables every night and practise their spellings!
Our topic for this term is: Ancient Egyptians
Whilst our homework focus is reading, multiplication tables and spellings this year, children are encouraged to create their own projects surrounding their topic. In the past, we have had children who have written stories and poems; created model replicas of objects and designed information reports. These projects have often been displayed in assemblies and are always rewarded
We are always incredibly impressed with the commitment that the chidren demonstrate towards their homework and really appreciate the support from parents
